Cream Together:
2 C. Sugar
3/4 C. Shortening
Add one at a time, 2 eggs and beat well after each. Add 1 cup milk. Add alternately with 3 cups flour, 1/2 cup cocoa, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Mix very well. Add 1 cup boiling water with 2 teaspoons soda...real thin batter.
Makes 3 layer cakes or 2 layers and 1 dozen cupcakes. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Frosting:
3 heaping tsp. Cocoa
1/2 C. Cream
2 Tbsp. Butter, very soft
1 tsp. Vanilla
2 C. Powdered Sugar
Add first 4 ingredients, mixing well. Add powdered sugar to creamed mixture.
*This recipe was originally my Grandmothers. My mom taught all of her kids to make a cake from scratch on this cake. Now we get to enjoy my Mom baking this cake almost every Sunday.
*If you love cake batter this is an excellent recipe.
